Alchemy Artist Residency

Wellington Heritage Museum

Until July 2, 2022 I’m in Prince Edward County participating in my first residency: Alchemy! Alchemy is an Ontario-based artist residency committed to fostering community engagement through the exploration and sharing of art, food and conversation.

During the residency I will be making site responsive work and honouring the labours and contributions of the field workers who form the backbone of Ontario’s agricultural industry through the making and sharing of communal meals each Wednesday.

If you are in the county, come visit us at the Wellington Heritage Museum during our Open Studio days on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11-4pm. Stop in to say hi and see the resident artists’ work in progress. I will also be leading a free collage workshop (open to all!) at the museum on Saturday July 2 from 11-2pm. No registration required – just drop in! Learn more here.

Be sure to also check out my instagram channel where I am sharing regular BTS photos and videos of my time in the county like the one below.

Exhibition Statement:

Sourced from fashion imagery, my work surrealistically explores the animate potential of decoration in relation to the feminized body. These paintings both inhabit the realm of portraiture while also denying access to the figure through mask-like ornament, destabilizing her status as the main subject. These figures are assemblages not only of divergent painted textures and shadows but also our constructions of femininity and gender: a collection of falsehoods and truisms that we are all constantly navigating. What is fantasy? Identity? Self-image? Desire? I aim to cultivate an aesthetic that is simultaneously seductive and unsettling as a means of investigating the overlap between these incarnations of self.

Toronto Outdoor Art Fair 2020 – Online Edition

In response to COVID-19, Toronto’s largest outdoor art fair – Toronto Outdoor Art Fair (TOAF) – has moved online, and I’m thrilled to be featured as one of this year’s participating artists! I have a selection of works available for purchase through the fair from July 2-12 – click here to view my directory.

In addition to works by over 300 artists, TOAF is also featuring curated collections, virtual art talks, tours and more. The fair has also launched an amazing fundraising initiative, Gifts of Heart, that is directing donations to special $250 gifts cards distributed to health care and front-line workers that they can use towards the purchase of an artwork. Give if you can and support first responders and artists at the same time!
